This Off Grid Cabin Has a Living Roof!

Occasionally, you find the perfect off-grid cabin—and this is just that! This tiny house features a living roof, giant floor-to-ceiling windows, and Japanese-inspired decor. It was designed by the incredibly talented David Coulson Design.

Want to see more cabins we’re loving? We’ve got an entire section dedicated to it!

The Exterior of the Tiny House

Coulson uses the off-grid cabin he built on his Vancouver Island property as his design studio. Seriously, could it get any better? The living roof and the staircase made of reclaimed iron instantly catch your eye from the outside—drawing you directly inside.

Beams of Douglas fir removed from the site were used to build the cabin itself. These make up the studio’s key elements and are visible inside and outside. The cabin’s numerous, sizable windows allow a lot of natural light to enter the cozy interior spaces.

The Interior of the Tiny House

Beautiful black granite countertops and vertical grain bamboo cabinets complete the kitchen. These further the Japanese-inspired room ambiance and the shoji screens found throughout the house.

As you can see, this tiny cabin is equipped with everything needed to live comfortably. While it makes an envious workspace, off-the-grid and cabin fans can use it as their primary abode.

Like the interior of this home? Then I recommend checking out the Alpha Tiny House.

A forest of green is visible from every angle, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. The studio’s tiny size, living roof, and surrounding vegetation perfectly integrate it into the surrounding environment. Do you agree that it is picture-perfect in every way?
